Please, keep the award I'll take a playoff birth

As an avid sports talk radio listener, I listen to both national and local talk and it's the same call I'm hearing from Rockies fans. "If Jim Tracy doesn't win the NL Manager of the Year award then blah blah blah.'' They are all the same, annoying and kind of sad. Sure, he deserves it but this season is a lot more important than some pointless award. We are in the hunt for the biggest in season turnaround in baseball history. I bet Jim Tracy would say the same thing too, winning the NL West would mean much more than some award. This is just a quick little rant because I keep hearing it and as a Rockies fan who has followed this team all season (being at opening day), it is down right annoying. Im guessing the people that keep doing this are the ones who jumped on the wagon in about mid-July. Please people, if he gets it, good for him. If he doesn't, who cares. We're a couple big series away from clinching a playoff birth. Let's just paint this orange and blue town black and purple!

No Hope for this season...

Well, two games in and 0-2 against a Mountain West team and a MAC team.  Great, don't know about you but I really can't wait for the Buffs to start playing some Big 12 teams.  Teams that actually recruit talent and use it properly.  After week 2 of college football, Colorado is the only winless team in the Big 12.  So i'm going to give you my top 3 reasons why the Buffs cannot win in the 4th year of the Dan Hawkins era.

1. Son at QB:  This is a problem not only for the coaches but also the players and potential players looking to come to Colorado.  This is the Big 12 and there are big time kids out there with good talent that want to go to a big conference school and until Cody is gone, Colorado will not have any of those kids wanting to play here.  I get it, why go to a school where you know you have no chance to play because the coaches kid is the freaking starter.

2. No emotion on the sidelines:  When was the last time you saw Dan Hawkins get in the face of a player or go ballistic on the sideline at anything the whole time he's been here?!  It never happens and it's getting annoying.  I want a coach that is on these kids to get the best out of them.  He isn't coaching up the kids to compete and I wouldn't be surprised if most of them are quitting on him all together.  If want Hawk to start grabbing some facemasks and red faced during these games where they are getting handled.

3. Hawk leaves Boise, they keep winning:  Notice that Boise St. hasn't missed a beat since Dan Hawkins left?  Telling us that he really had nothing to do with their success and he just happened to be the head coach.  Assistant coaches are just as important if not more important as the head coach for coaching up players.  Obvioulsy Hawk or A.D. Mike Bohn has not done very well at all getting the assistant coaches needed to help the CU program play like they are suppose to.  Plus, saying you're gunna get 10 wins this season doesn't help either.

These plus about one million other little things are really setting back the Buffs and making them look like they wouldn't compete in division 2 football.  Wyoming next week is going to be interesting.  The Buffs SHOULD blow them out of Folsom, then again, they were suppose to do that to CSU and Toledo.

9-1 home stand and gaining!

As the Rockies go 21 games over .500, gain on the Dodger, pull away from the Giants and no matter what that will continue tonight.  The Dodgers and Giants will be playing and as long as the Rockies keep on keepin' on, they will either pull further away from the pesky Giants or get that much closer to leading the NL West.

Not to mention the current 7 game winning streak.  The Rockies are rolling and no one can seem to stop them.  Not even a team as hot as the Reds were when they came into town.  Now we are off to San Diego where we will play a team that has nothing to play for.  It won't be easy, it never is in San Diego, but the way this team seems to pull out wins like a magician pulling rabbits out of his hat, it could be very beneficial having to go to San Fran. against the Giants.  The Rockies will win the division.  Even if you see that the Rockies have only won 3 times against the Dodgers this year, when we go to L.A. for that last series and we sweep them out of their own house on our way to the first NL West championship, the only 3 previous wins won't matter because the Rockies would have made the greatest turnaround in MLB history.

Even with Cook, Tulo, Dex, and other key members of this team out, they still find a way to win.  6 walk off wins this season including the first ever walk off grand slam by Spilly.  When the team is almost back to full strength for the NLDS, I really don't see how anyone will be able to keep up with the pitching and hitting of the Rockies.  No, not even the Cardinals.  It will be interesting to see how it all ends up, either way, the Rockies are all but in the Playoffs and the chance of a NL west title is within reach!

Probably won't be enough... but I can try.

The word of the freaking month in October of 2007 and since, has been a word I really can't stand.  Rocktober.  Now, in 2007, Rocktober went well with the team.  A team that had to pull a miracle out of the bag to just get the chance to play in October.  They way it was done in 2007 was Rocktoberish.  Exciting, unbelievable, unforgettable.  The Rockies team we are watching now in 2009 is on a completely different level than 2007.  2009 has been a year in which we have seen the Rockies play consistent winning baseball (with exception to the first two throw away months under 'the manager.')  April through August in 2007 was mediocre at best.  It took a 21 of 22 or whatever it was plus a play in game just to get into the big dance.  This season the Rockies have shown they have playoff aspirations since Jim Tracy, or I will call Jesus, took over.

Please, please, please, PLEASE reframe from using the term 'Rocktober.'  It should forever be left with the fluke of 2007 and could be bad luck going into October this year.  As of now, the Rockies are 3 up on the Giants and only 3.5 behind the Dodgers.  The division is still in reach but will most likely take a Rocktober miracle to overtake a team we have only beaten 3 times this season.  This season is different.  They are doing it a different way, I don't know about you, but I think those of us that have followed this team all season expect the team to make the playoffs.  No matter how much i rant and rave, the bandwagon clowns I can't stand will bring up Rocktober and it will once again be jammed down our throats.  This isn't the Rockies first time in the playoffs, time to play big boy baseball and just play to win it all.

Buffs lose big, future looks dark...

Well, if you thought it was bad yesterday I just read on the Denver Post that QB Tyler Hansen will be red-shirting for this season. This means the only way he will play is if Cody Hawkins gets hurt. We can all hope that someone will nicely blow Cody's knee apart but we all know that will not happen. Why can't the Buffs get better? Think about this. If you are a high school QB looking for a place to play and start, you look at Colorado and see that the coach's son is starting and no matter how poorly he plays or how bad the team is, he will be there until the day he graduates. Also, what happened to all that hype around RB Darrell Scott?? This is a kid that turned down Texas to come to Boulder and get one carrie for one yard?! Are you kidding me. Not only that, but the main reason (I'm guessing) that D. Scott choose CU was because of his uncle Josh Smith who was on the team. He has since transfered to UCLA. It would not surprise me one bit if Scott decided to somehow just sit out this season and transfer out of CU because I'm sure there are a long line of teams that would love his services. It just bothers me that head coach Dan Hawkins doesn't see any problem with Cody's play in his 3 years at QB. He has not progressed and the Hawkins era has not worked. Not sure what was more embarrassing... Losing to Montana St. 3 years ago or to Colorado State at home yesterday. Either way, something must be done now or this will be a long long season. In other words, like last season.

Up Next for the Buffs... Friday Night @ Toledo.

Here is an amazing picture of Jay Cutler getting owned. Reply with a comment of what the ref Ed Hockuley is thinking as this is going down. As you can see, the reaction is priceless!
