Please, please, please, PLEASE reframe from using the term 'Rocktober.' It should forever be left with the fluke of 2007 and could be bad luck going into October this year. As of now, the Rockies are 3 up on the Giants and only 3.5 behind the Dodgers. The division is still in reach but will most likely take a Rocktober miracle to overtake a team we have only beaten 3 times this season. This season is different. They are doing it a different way, I don't know about you, but I think those of us that have followed this team all season expect the team to make the playoffs. No matter how much i rant and rave, the bandwagon clowns I can't stand will bring up Rocktober and it will once again be jammed down our throats. This isn't the Rockies first time in the playoffs, time to play big boy baseball and just play to win it all.

Probably won't be enough... but I can try.
The word of the freaking month in October of 2007 and since, has been a word I really can't stand. Rocktober. Now, in 2007, Rocktober went well with the team. A team that had to pull a miracle out of the bag to just get the chance to play in October. They way it was done in 2007 was Rocktoberish. Exciting, unbelievable, unforgettable. The Rockies team we are watching now in 2009 is on a completely different level than 2007. 2009 has been a year in which we have seen the Rockies play consistent winning baseball (with exception to the first two throw away months under 'the manager.') April through August in 2007 was mediocre at best. It took a 21 of 22 or whatever it was plus a play in game just to get into the big dance. This season the Rockies have shown they have playoff aspirations since Jim Tracy, or I will call Jesus, took over.

The thing is that catch phrases are always going to be abused. For example, the "Dream Team" which was first used by the 1992 US Olympic Basketball team. It was also given similar names in later years. (Consequently, some people erronously credit the "Dream Team" being the 1980 US Hockey Olympic team... this was the "Miracle on Ice").
ReplyDeletePeople are right now just happy that Colorado has a team that is actually winning. Given the Broncos usually overshadow baseball, and that the Rockies have not really had much luck in the postseason (the '95 season seemed to be a fluke, and 2007 was Rocktober). Most fans are just happy that they have no other word to use for this year.
Now, the Broncos.... that's another story
Great points.. and thanks for commenting! You are my first legit. comment iv had in the 5 or so months iv been doing this! But ya, Rocktober just reminds me of 2007 and i think thats where it should stay. As long as the Rockies are in the playoffs, I may be able to block it out!
